How to Negotiate Your Salary in 2026: Don’t Leave Money on the Table

Get Paid What You're Worth
Congratulations! You've successfully passed the interviews and the job offer is on the table. But before signing, there's one last, crucial step left: Negotiation. It's one of the important steps that can change your career life in the near future.

In 2026, salary isn't just a number—it's a package. Here is how to handle the "money talk" like a professional.

1. Know Your Global Market Value

Before the call, use tools like Glassdoor, Payscale, or local job boards to see what someone with your experience earns in your specific region (e.g., Manila vs. Cebu vs. Remote).

  • The Rule: Never give a single number. Always give a range with a $5,000–$10,000 spread.

2. Don't Blink First

If the recruiter asks, "What are your salary expectations?" early in the process, try to deflect:
  • "I’m more focused on finding the right fit for my skills right now. What is the budgeted range for this position?" Whoever says the first number usually loses a bit of leverage.

3. Focus on "Total Compensation"

If the base salary is lower than you wanted, look at the whole picture:

  • Remote Stipend: Can they pay for your internet/co-working space?
  • Health Benefits: What is the coverage for your family?
  • Learning Budget: Will they pay for your certifications?
  • Performance Bonus: Is there a guaranteed 13th or 14th-month pay?

4. Use the "Gratitude + Pivot" Technique

When you get the offer, stay calm and professional:
  •  "Thank you so much for the offer! I’m very excited about the role. However, based on my 5 years of experience in AI integration, I was expecting something closer to [Your Target Number]. Is there flexibility here?"

5. Get It in Writing

In the digital age, a "verbal promise" means nothing. Ensure every detail of your salary, bonuses, and benefits is included in the final PDF contract before you sign.
